Our spring…no our winter…and really fall too, has been all about the college application, visiting and selection process. Actually last year was too. Right now I can’t remember any time that wasn’t all about Ellie’s college selection, Mr. Reader.
Applying to 20 schools and getting into 18 of them sounds lovely statistically but in reality is has been a complicated, emotional season of life, (not to mention an expensive one buying college sweatshirt after college sweatshirt).
It came down to the wire. When UVM accepted her last minute we all thought Montana might be out based on proximity alone. The visit to Burlington only complicated things as she loved the school and the program, but couldn’t believe the sticker price ($63K/Year). She made lists and put up polls on Instagram. She called my dad and looked for signs (literally: ‘but the wifi password in Montana is PEANUT…and the Taylor Swift quote was in chalk on the Oval…etc)
In the end, we cuddled up in my bed and talked and talked. Once the tears dried she had come away with a confident and exciting decision:
She’s going to Montana to be a Grizzly Bear!
I am really excited for her. Super nervous at the idea of her being so far away, of course. But so excited for all the adventures she will have and the people she will meet. Now we just need to figure out the logistics of getting her there!
What a ride!
