25 years ago, I met Brent. My life has been full of lucky moments and sources of joy but nothing could compare to the impact on my life that single shot at the bar has had. We talk a lot about why our relationship has worked as well as it does. Mostly I am looking for the way to codify how we work together so I can give tips to our kids. We always seem to land on our ability to let the other one grow and change without fear or jealousy. We back each other up with blind and fierce loyalty. I knew within a couple weeks of meeting Brent that I loved him and wanted to marry him. I didn’t know at the time how real and cellular that love is and how much I would celebrate giving ‘Burt’ my real phone number.
To celebrate our anniversary we went on a date night on Saturday. We had drinks and apps down by the bay and then walked around the marina holding hands and taking artsy photos. I convinced him to ride the Paragon Carousel with me and giggled at how sweet and cheesy it was. Then we got ice cream and walked down to the beach. We talked and talked, telling stories, predicting the future and reflecting on our (ok my) parenting. It was seriously such a fun date night.
I love you, Brent. So much.
