The kids finished off their 3rd term of what is definitely the most unexpectedly bizarre school years of their lives. They’re doing pretty well with it, all things considered. The rule in our house is 10-14h is only school time. They usually need a bit more time than that but it gives us structure. Liam sets his alarm for 8:00 so that he can catch a couple hours of virtual play time with his friends in Belgium. I kind of love that, not the chimpanzee screaming noises that come from the basement, but the enduring relationships and language skills that have managed to transition with him.
I put my extra coffee in cups for them each morning and eventually Ellie makes her way down to make her modified Starbucks fix. She quickly retreats back upstairs for zoom calls and Study Island. It is a weird way to learn but I’m proud of them for making it work. When they aren’t in their rooms, you can often find one of them out on the porch or on the hammock downstairs reading. This family loves its hammocks!
To celebrate the successful end of a wonky term, we went into town for milkshakes. We drank them down by the water with masks handy and all social distancing rules observed. I can’t get over Liam’s curls!
So with another 15 minutes on the trampoline and one more time wiping down the counter, we head into another week. Godspeed Rebels.
