I fall more in love with Hull and our lives here every day. This weekend was splendid and full of friends, family, gardening, sunshine and sea breezes. And plenty of time on the hammock! Saturday was HHS’s graduation where I got to sit in front and confirm the class of 2022’s diplomas. As the speeches talked about giving space for different ideas and strengths, I watched sailboats coast by and seagulls fly overhead. I knew several of the names that were called and chuckled at the students’ decorated caps–they went all out!
Saturday evening Ellie invited about 20 kids to come over for a barbeque to celebrate her birthday. I was super hands-off for this party and had a lovely evening sipping beer out of wine glasses with Dee and Damion while Brent cooked. To get ready for the party I planted my tomato plants and pushed the button for Ulf to vacuum the basement. Done and done.
Today when I left for work, the sun was shining but the breeze made it cool. As I walked to the boat I listened to the waves and watched as Ellie and Dylan went into the high school full of smiles. I recognized the other cars in the drop off lane and greeted the lobsterman putting his traps in the water. It was that kind of morning.
I love it here: this town, this house, this community. As Ellie and I threw the lacrosse ball around on Sunday, we talked about how many girls she knows who used to live in this house. We quickly agreed that is so weird because there is something about this house that is just ours. It feels like it was waiting for us.
Like it wanted to be green all along!
