So even though the Benslers had to delay their visit out to Boston, Abby still got to come spend a week with us. We had a great time and I made a new good friend! Over the weekend, Abby jumped right in helping get ready for the party and celebrating Ellie’s big day. During the week, however, she was all mine as Ellie was still in school. We had a great time visiting Plimouth Plantation (a lifelong dream of mine) where Abby helped one of the pilgrim women grind salt for toothpaste and we were outed as being ‘history buffs’. We saw the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock and an archaeological dig under the gravesite of dead pilgrims which had Abby convinced we would be haunted. We roamed into every cemetery we passed and created imaginary stories of the lives of those now buried beneath the ground. We spent a day in Boston, walking the Freedom Trail and eating salad on a bench in Boston Common.
We spent a day at the beach in Ogunquit, Maine and the girls bought matching yellow Maine T-shirts. Whenever we got home from one of our field trips, I thought I might die of exhaustion and wanted to hide away from the heat but Abby would quickly run out to jump on the trampoline or explore Hull by bike. She has more energy than a normal human! While she was here she took in all things New England, the accent, the beach, the lobster roll and clam chowder. I spent the whole time convincing her she wants to come to MA for college. Fingers crossed she’ll consider it….don’t tell Grandma Marcia.
